Choose a scoring profile for an event
This article covers how to choose which scoring profile an event uses. The profile decides how finishes and codes become points for that event. For what a profile is and how the default works, see How scoring profiles work.
Access. You need the Official or Admin permission on the club running the event.
You do not have to choose a profile. If you leave it alone, the event uses the club's default profile. Choose one only when this event should be scored differently.
When you create the event
The Scoring Profile field is in the Competition Setup section of the Create Event form, just below Scoring Type.
- On the Create Event form, scroll to Competition Setup.
- Under Scoring Profile, select the profile you want.

The profile marked Recommended is the club's default and is already selected. To use it, you do not need to do anything. Select a different card only if this event needs different rules.
When you edit an existing event
You can change the profile after the event is created:
- Open the event and select Edit Event.
- Open the Competition tab.
- Under Scoring Profile, select the profile you want.
- Select Save.
The Scoring Profile field on the Competition tab works exactly like the one on the create form shown above.
What each option shows
Each profile is a card showing its name, its description, and its Discard Rule, for example Discard Rule: 50% of races. The discard rule comes from the profile's rules for this event type. Use it to check the profile discards races the way you expect before you choose it.
If the club has no scoring profiles, you see a note that no profiles were found and that standard RYA Low Point scoring will be applied. To use custom rules, a club admin needs to create a scoring profile first.
Events run by an association at a host club
When an event is owned by a class association but hosted by a club, the profiles are grouped so you can see where each comes from: one group for the owner organisation and one for the host club. Pick whichever group's profile should score the event. This is how Dockside resolves a profile for these events: the event's own choice first, then the host club's default, then the owner association's default.
If no profile is selected
If no profile is chosen and the club has no default, the event uses Standard Position Scoring: 1st place is 1 point, 2nd is 2 points, and so on, with no custom code or discard rules. To score codes like DNF or OCS your own way, choose a profile instead.
